i'm doing the odometer gear replacement on my 95 ford explorer tomorrow and i have a few questions:

1. do i have to remove the needles from the gauges to replace the gear?

2. how long does it take?

3. if i have to remove the needles on the explorers do i have to adjust the speedo?

Do you have the gauges off and the actual gears are damaged? Usually the worm gear is the issue and that doesn't involve removing the pins. Just replace the worm gear. There is a how to with pictures on here somewhere, I think.

I did a search about odometer gear replacement and so far this is all that I have found. My speedometer works but neither my odometer nor my tripometer turns in both of my '97s. Can anyone direct me to a thread and where is the best place to get new gears?

No idea on a source for actual gears. As to the replacement, any of the articles that describe how to set the odometer on our gauge clusters should be adequate. I had to do that procedure when I swapped to a white instrument cluster and it's not too hard.

junk yard or ebay for parts, you can get an instrument cluster from many many fords and use for parts............ I have parts here if needed I have huge tubs of instrument clusters I use for parts
