The premium fuel in there makes me wonder also. It will be interesting to see what effects the different fuels will have on performance.

My wife's Forester turbo's performance suffers quite a bit when used with regular fuel. So much so, that the money you save buying lower octane fuel is no where near enough to make up for the fewer miles per gallon. Of course, the Forester doesn't have direct injection and other neato technologies to help with performance.

Breaking it down nerd style.
Modern turbo charged engines will run on even the worst fuel (like in CA) but you are correct in that performance suffers. When you fill up with 87 octane fuel the engine will most likely have pre-ignition under boost and or load. The knock sensors will “hear” this and retard the timing and/or richen the fuel mixture to prevent the knock depending on the ECU’s programming. Some manufactures (like Mitsubishi) program there ECU’s to go into “limp mode” after a set amount of time the engine hears knocking. Both retarded timing and richer fuel mixture will hurt the MPG and performance but saves the engine from damage. Most cars you really can’t tell the difference other than filling up more. I owned a highly modified Eclipse GSX for 12 years and could tell when the timing was being pulled due to knock or high inlet temperatures.

Cory, has anyone who ordered a 2012 received a VIN yet?

I ordered on 6/8/2011 and got a VIN assigned on 6/24/2011

Still looks like crap.

Awww man I'm feeling left out, I still haven't gotten a VIN!

Just got my final quote for my EX. 51k and 1,678.50 more than the 11 I had on order. Ouch.
