go to you local metal store an ask for 4 peices of 2x3/8 stock 7"long an drill a 9/16 hold 6" apart. thats what i did an that about how mine looked was able to break them apart with a hammer.
btw those are for if you want to lift the back 1 1/2"

Thats not to uncommon, mine where like that when I replaced them with warrior shackles. Although yours are pretty rusted. Thats where there is the golden rule about buying used vehicles, never buy in the dark and never buy in the rain.

i've never seen rust like that anywhere.... is that caused by all the salt and everything? i'm looking behind it to, and it's just white everywhere....

i've seen snow 4 times in my life, all was gone a day later...

Hint
if you live on the 40th parallel or above-don't save a few bucks by neglecting the undercoating.
Also-wash the trucks undercarriage every time you visit the car wash-


I'll bet the pictured truck only saw automatic car washes it's entire life.

There is quite a bit of work to do under there---to be honest. If the shackles are that bad-your spare tire is about to drop also--

Holy! Good catch... Just took Snowball for a bath today. Wash at least once a week up here. The salt is ridiculous up here- I wish they just used sand or beet juice. (Seriously- do a search )

well beet juice would be for the brine. the city im contracted to we use brine with a 50/50 salt sand mix. now that will really cut up exposed metal.

I love the fact we don't use any salt here at all.. we use nothing but gravel.

Count on burning the hardware off with a torch when it looks like that.

Otherwise it is a straightforward bolt up job.

Note, the bolts are metric, not standard. Finding replacements for shackles made of thicker metal (a good idea) is somewhat difficult. Try Fastenall or some other specialty bolt place. Check the web and the yellow pages.

They did -- post 5 above... And yes, I'd go that route myself.

For our Alaskan friend, the states can be brutal with all the salt use on public highways. That sort of rust isn't common for all the lower 48, but it is for the snow belt across the Canadian border. Especially the more populated areas east of Minnesota.

Man.. that really sucks.. Main problem here is the extreme temp difference between the seasons.. which I'm sure really puts stress on the metal. I'm assuming.

I had the same thing on mine, except one of my shackles was completely missing a side. Still worked fine somehow, it went off road like that. And before you break out a torch...they may come off, mine did after standing on a 1/2 inch breaker bar. I really wish I had pictures of my old shackles. The bad one came off in like 3 pieces.

well i am in michigan, and we don't like to take care of our roads here, it's like offroading on salt and broken asphalt. there is no spare tire, and where can i find hardware that can support that weight??(besides ordering it online) we have usual hardware stores and autoparts stores, there arent really any metal shops and all the body shops are shady as fnck

what size bolts for the grade 8 hardware??
