ohv / sohc / a4ld / 4 [and 5] R55E reliability questions? [another purchase possible]

was going to buy a 97' limited awd v8. passed up at the last second due to some questionably paint work.

have now located a 2000 sport with 39k miles for 10 grand. i have not seen the truck yet, my father just told me about it. i am going to look tonight. can anyone tell me what to expect with the 5r55e as compared to the a4ld in my 91?

how is the sohc compared to the ohv in the 91?

the SOHC boasts much more power of its OHV counterpart. However the SOHC has had 2 recalls due to issues with the engine, which if not taken care of under warranty can become a costly out of your pocket repair. The power compairison is SOHC with about 210 HP, and OHV with around 160HP.

The tranny's issues were resolved somewhat in 95 with 5r55e, but its still a weak tranny when compared to the v8 tranny which is the most reliable of them all.
