oil additives

I know oil additives have been a knock lately and I used to myself. But I just finished tearing apart a 302 that's towed a boat for 250,000 miles at least. The car's been in the family since new. Well I didn't even have to ridge ream the cylinders to get the pistons out, the timing chain was still tight as new and the bearing were still within specs. Dad dumped slick50 in this thing regularly.
The boat it towed was a 19ft fish and ski so this motor had a hard life, needless to say I'm impressed and think
I'll put this stuff in my explorer. 94 4x4, stock except for the 31x10.5's. Planning a lift and an explorer v-8 once it's paid off.

High quality oil simply does not need any addative.

I've already read that, but I'm looking at this motor and at 250,000 it shouldn't be this clean. I'm an aircraft mechanic by trade so I know a lot about synthetics(they were invented for turbine engines). I just can't justify putting $5/qt into the crankcase of a 4.0 ohv. Once it's a 5.0, then yes.

I'm an old school hot rodder. Anything with less than 8 cyl's still doesn't impress me. I'm gonna maintain this V-6 til it gives up the ghost and drop a 5.0 in there. The 4.0 is a good but unimpressive motor.

Doesn't that motor deserve the same care as any other one?

It's well maintained, oil every 3000, plus every20-25k, air filter about every 15k. I'm just not doing exotic with it.
