Hi Gents!

I am new to the forum and am very greatful for all the information available. I also wanted to know if you can help me with a concern of mine.
I recently purchased a 2014 Explorer Sport and took it to Utah (12,000 ft climb). Turns out the hose supplying oil to one of the turbo fell off on the way. I was leaking oil for 7 days until I got home and took it to the dealer (which then found out the reason). My concern is the damage it had on the turbo. I was very disappointed in the lack of power during my trip, but now I know why. After they installed the hose back, the power was awesome. I just worry about the wear and tear on the turbo during the 1800 miles I put on it during my trip. Please help me understand what to expect from my car in the future. Thanks!

Welcome to the Forum Explorer903.:wavey:
As mentioned in my PM, I have moved your thread to this existing one. Not being that knowledgeable on turbos, I don't know if there would have been any damage caused in this case. I would make sure that you keep your copy of the invoice/work order just in case of any future problem that may arise because of this. I'm sure that some members will add their comments as well.
Good luck.

I don't think this should have been merged. This thread is regarding the cold air intercooler piping popping off under load.

The OP is talking about an oil line coming off and leaking oil. Oil is what keeps the turbos from overheating. Two completely separate issues.

You are correct. After re reading the OP's post I have moved the posts back to their own thread. I guess I had too much going on at once. Thanks blwnsmoke. That just confirms that you should take over when I move on. ;)

So, you're saying that 1 turbo was getting no oil for a period of time, correct? I'd be concerned if that's the case. 1800 miles isn't much, but it's probably more than enough to cause extra wear on the bearings.

Couple things do seem to make sense here.

1st if the oil feed line was off the turbo, performance would be not diminished until the turbo started to seize. It would stop spinning and build boost then. The turbo would have to be replaced.

2nd if the oil feed line was of it would have pumped all the oil out of the motor in less than 100 miles, look at the size of the return line out the bottom of the turbo. It is fairly large to allow the return of a significant amount of oil.

So from what I have read, I saw no indication of significant oil loss and no indication the turbo was replaces. Sound like to me it was a pressure hose that came off and it was venting boost to the atmosphere.

My thoughts exactly..... Turbos DON'T survive without oil, way to many RPMs there.

Most likely it was the intake hose that came loose due to the loss of power experienced. As others have stated, if the oil line came off all the oil would have drained out rather quickly and the engine would have seized up. Having the intake hose come loose is not all uncommon actually, there is a lot of pressure going through them and need to be secured very well.
