Oil droping and dirty after switching to synthetic?

Last time i got my oil changed i decided to put mobil 1 synthetic in it but now... the oil got dirty really fast... the oil level is also somehow going down, but i don't see any leaks.... at least not any leaks big enough to drip down from the engine.

Yhe synthetic oil will appear dirtier because of its detergent action; it just looks dirty.

why would the oil level drop?

engine oil (synth or dino) can only go 2 places. combustion chamber or the ground. if it aint leakin' it, than its using it. proly not something you wanted to hear

A synthetic is a "NATURAL" detergent in itself. This will account fot the oil getting "DIRTIER" sooner. It's cleaning all of the sludge and varnish deposits out of your engine from the DINO JUICE. As far as the "DISAPPEARING" oil, when are you checking the oil level? Since one of the benifits of a synthetic is its ability to "CLING" to the internal components (eliminating "DRY" starts), it doesn't drain down real fast like DINO JUICE does. You really get the most acurate reading after letting the engine set all night long and check it in the morning.

hmm i'll check it in the morning, i think i normally check it like an hour after it has sat.... hopefully thats all it is

I know tires should be checked when cold, but I always thought oil should be checked when the engine was still warm, as in 15-30 minutes after it was driven.

a little word of advice. change your oil plug bolt gasket and get a magnectic bolt.

The magnet attracts all the metal particles in the oil, so they don't float around and scrape everything. The synthetics will remove all the old gunk, and with it small pieces of metal that were stuck in it. The magnet will clean them out.

so when i go to change my oil tomorrow, pick up a magnetic plug and replace the regular one with it? Think i can get one at autozone?

thats were i got mine. same as stock, except it has a magnet on it.

Your filter will do the job of removing metal particles. A magnetic pluc can become fouled and the particles can slough off in a big glob. Magnetic tranny plugs on a manual are a different story.
