 I am doing some work on a 1999 Ex for a friend,I was asked to change the oil/filter and she informed me that when she last took the truck in for service she was told that the wrong filter had been installed and the threads where the filter mounts had been stripped !
I took off the old filter and sure enough it was A the wrong filter and B the threads were crossed.
The nipple can be replaced independent of the housing where the gasket fits, but NOBODY seems to have a new ( or used) replacement nipple???
It's a 5.0L V-8
Any HELP would be appreciated, I need this part ASAP
Thanks, Ron
I can be reached by phone @ (570) 594-2406:confused:

get a hold of kbabiak on here...he is a member, a used parts vendor, and he's in pa..if you look at the forums page at the bottom, there is also a link to him...he's the best...:D

They're on eBay all the time because the Mustang guys buy the motors and cannot use the cooler.

I was gonna suggest junk yard (recycled auto parts) because there must be a couple billion 5.0 L (302 ci) engines out there. They probably have used the same filter FL-1A for at least 30 years.

The Explorer does not use an FL1A, it's an FL820 filter, different threads.

Oh, that's probably how it got stripped. Is there enough room for a FL-1A in there? If so, I would probably go that way. Otherwise look for a 5.0L Explorer in the bone yard.

Some Explorers have a cooler adapter for the filter, so there are two different filter bolts/adapters. If he has no cooler he may be able to just change to a regular FL1A adapter.

Don't all Explorers have the cooler adapter? If they didn't it would put the cooler right into the frame, I think.

The water engine cooler is not standard on all Explorers. My 98 302 has the filter right on the block.
