Hi everybody. First thread here. Went to change the oil today and saw this. Oil didn’t appear to originate from the filter. Maybe above. Hard to tell if it leaked or sprayed. Haven’t noticed any spots on the driveway yet. Any ideas where to start looking? Thanks in advance.

Hard to tell but most that have had leaks are from the rear of the engine cover. If I recall correctly, the engine cover does not use a gasket, it uses some type of liquid sealer and it can start to leak requiring the engine cover to come off and resealed. If you pop the hood and look towards the firewall and then down, you will probably see where the oil is coming from. That's where my 2011 had it when I owned it.

We have a 2017 2.3 EcoBoost Explorer that had a timing chain cover leak "repaired" at 39,000 miles. At 49,000 miles while under the vehicle I noticed that it's leaking again from the timing cover:(. I have to take it back a second time before the 5/60 power train warranty runs out. I wonder if it leaks a third time but it's out of the power train warranty will I have to pay for it ?

If you pay for them, not if used under warranty.

Warranty is warranty but repairs under warranty can be reclaimed under a faulty part (i forget the official name) for 1yr/12k if you now fall outside the warranty.

So if you get a repair done at 34k, you have 1yr or till.youbhit 46k for the part to fail and still have the dealer submit for it to be covered again.
