I have 97 ranger and dropped the oil pan. I have a 4.0 engine and from what I have read a 4.0 is a 4.0 it doesn't matter if it's a ranger or expression . I want to change the pan. I can find after market pans for the explorer 4.0 and nothing for the ranger . Wl the smaller explorer pan for the ranger?

Your Ranger has a 4.0 OHV. As long as the Explorer pan is for an 4.0 OHV and not the 4.0 SOHC in later years of Explorer, it should fit. Maybe the SOHC pan is the same, I don’t know that, might want to look up the stock part and see it there’s a different number or not.

SOHC pans completely different, the sohc has a upper and a lower pan, the sohc has a gridle support for the crank bearings built into the lower end

The OHV oil pan is same from 89-96 in ranger, same as 91-94 in explorer all TTB trucks (beams front suspension)

The 95-2000 oil pan from the IFS trucks will also work

Here is 94 ranger 4.0 oil pan on Rockauto

and a 98 Ranger with SLA IFS front suspension

same same
