I have a 2000 Explorer XLT 4.0 OHC. It has 151,000 on it right now. I've noticed the last couple days my oil pressure has been goofy. Some days I can start her up and the oil gauge operates in the normal for a few seconds and drops back to nothing. I immediately shut her down then restart. Then I have oil pressure but the needle flickers back and forth slightly. But after a few minutes it stabilizes and runs just fine. Some days it'll be just fine then drop off while driving and then return to normal.

DO you think my gauge is bad or my mom could be going bad?

Oil pressure switch

The oil pressure switch could be clogged or defective. It's fairly inexpensive but somewhat difficult to get to on the SOHC. There are several threads about it on the forum. Try searching or click on My Registry in my signature and go to post #41.

Most likely the sensor, wiring or the gauge. Make sure the connection to the sensor is clean.
