FMS-M-9926-D462 Alomst $200 Al, I looked.

If one of you buys the Throttle Body (see...I do know the difference) please post an install thread with pics.

I swapped TBs on my old 2.9 ranger (stock 50mm to 58mm from a different year engine) and it felt like it made a difference. No, I didn't dyno it, for those about to ask. :p

Not compatible. Somewhere on the Volant site they get into the differences. Give them a call or scroll around their site.

Here's one link that shows the different model #s.

Here's a better link.

I have the same TB on my X and I gained about 6 HP, and 8 pounds of torque on the dyno. Yes, it may be a little pricey new, but it was worth it too me. By the way I got mine on ebay for 30 bucks unused in the box.

If this fits why not buy a larger mm BBK unit for the 4.6L engine and use it for your explorer sohc?? It should fit if its designed for the 4.6L engine right?

Good deal. Post a write up about it...with pics. I am several years and several thousand dollars behind most of you on mods.

I just installed the Mac intake I bought from celly a few minutes ago. I am happy today. :) :)

Thanks for the links. Just wish I had them a couple months ago.

Looks like I got the wrong one for my '01 SOHC. My kit has the two breather hoses coming off it which would be '98-00 only according to the link above. I got it from JCWhitney since they were the cheapest I could find. They listed it for '99-01 Ranger/Explorer/Sport Trac and didn't mention any other versions. I thought it was a bit of a PITA to install. The throttle body end of the cold air tube seems really small too....actually fits inside the TB with room to spare. It was tough to get the flex sleeve on there. I had to buy a piece of 5/8 hose for the one breather tube to reach the cam cover, and I plugged the extra tube. Works alright now.

Al: Do you know how many MM the stock throttle bodies are on our explorers? You will find out soon I guess. :)

From looking around on e-bay the factory mustang ones are 60-65mm.

A C&L maf and a FMS t-body...transmission cooler, remote filter, temp guage, PML trans pan....cat-back exhaust....More than I make in several months. Gotta start somewhere I guess. :D

right...

but then how much more performance do you really get with the pipe over the stock duct???

will kkm add hp or not?

My understanding is that the stock intake was designed with all the bumps and ridges to quiet the the intake noise by disrupting (therefore slowing) the air flow. So a smooth intake tube should do significantly better than stock.

Am I correct? I don't think it's just cosmetics.

Throttle body information

Man oh man I wish I would have never told anyone about the 70mm throttle body period. It has been a complete confusion since it was brought out by Al after I told him and already had one on my truck for months :fire: . Let me clear things up on the sizes..... The factory size is 65mm (same as a stock 1996-2004 Mustang GT)factory is not 66mm (which is BBK's size for the 4.0 pushrod/ohv). The 70MM t/b Aldive already has is the same unit as the 96-2004 Motorsport unit for the Mustang, you guys are currently questioning about. So if you went out and brought a 70MM unit that aldive tested previously and this one then there will be no difference whatsoever because they are the same unit. If you go out and buy a BBK 70mm you will have to install your tps as they don't come with one like the Motorsport unit does. The connections are straight forward on the motorsport unit. The bbk will obviously work because you will use the tps from you old t/b.

MAF information

If you have a Ex older than 99 then you will have to need a sample tube for the C&L because the electronics are exposed and the tube limits the amount of air that "blows" across the sensor which effectively "calibrates" the meter for the injectors. That is the reason it is needed. If you look at the housing from a 98 or older factory meter you will notice the electronics fit inside this tube tube which is cast into the meter itself. 99-03 Explorers have the type of meter Aldive shows in the previous picture. Ford did away with the aluminum body with the casting in the meter and integrated the electronics with a "tube" so to speak so this is the reason for not needing a sample tube for the 99-03 C&L meters. Also the hole in the later meters (99-03) is larger to accomodate the new type of electronics. Then you get into the 04-later meters which is commonly known as the credit card style! They are a new animal altogether! This has already been covered by me once in a previous post. If you want pics of the different styles let me know I will post to clear up this confusion....

mmmm just got my 572528 in today,im pumped to install it!! im sitting at work right now playing with it and already got the thing put together.. i have to drill an 11/16" hole in it thought for my IAT sensor, but of course the bits i sell only go to 1/2" so i cant do that... thinking of posting off a irwin unibit ... lmao.. who knows when we might need this in the shop ... i don't have access to a dyno, so don't get horny for a readings... looks like im on my way to a decently modded explorer.. just need headers now and my intake / exhaust will be 100% modified.
