These are off a 95 Cobra, been sittin in a friends garage since 97 or so and I can get a good deal on them.. not sure if I want them or not, so I thought Id see what you guys have to say. (I also hate my current tires. So if I'm gonna buy new ones, might as well get rims now)

The 95-98 are basically the same

Heres my X for opinions:

IMO I was never fond of those rims on the 96-97 Cobra's which is actually one of the reasons they switched to a more aggressive version of the 95'
Cobra R's on the 98' Cobras b/c a lot of people we're complaining about the rims not looking aggressive enough or fit the image for a Cobra.

I've seen a new Ranger with these rims and did not like it at all, just looked weird on a truck. IMO I would just think they look a little funny on a sport but it is your decision so......

those rims won't look good on a truck at all imho. for that matter they don't even look good on the cars they came stock on. sorry

This is why Ford stopped making these rims:

Just did not look good, and definitley did not fit the image of a Cobra to make it look aggressive, actually it took me awhile to find a pic with a Cobra with those original rims b/c ever single 96-97 Cobra I found had Cobra R type of rims added on lol, guess that tells you something.

I don't think they would look nice at all on your truck.

I'm not a big fan of those either.

Another for NO. What you have looks much better than those do.

I've never really liked them either really. Just thought I'd see what you guys had to say. Search continues I guess. I like the Cobra R style, but too many people do that already

Theres a reason for that, nothing really looks better or more aggressive lol. Actually, especially on a Black 2nd gen Explorer, I think Cobra rims look better then they do on an actual Cobra and I've had a few Mustang friends tell me that also.

If you want to be a little different, they make an 18" Cobra rim with rivets that looks pretty sweet, they have a picture of them somewhere in MM&FF in an ad for Ford rims.

I dont like them at all... just my .02

I saw a black 2nd gen Explorer with the Cobra R rims except they were "black" powder coated, kinda like a black chrome, and the Cobra emblem was left the same so you could see the Cobra. It looked insane, that was the most aggressive looking truck I had ever seen, combined with the dual exhaust:D

Any idea on how much it would cost to powder coat a set of Cobras?

You could maybe do this to your Sport, but I'm not sure on how black rims would look on your color, the regular Cobra's would look awsome though;)

well, here's another "NO" vote. my friend has a 96 Cobra, and he took those off the second day he had it. i dont really like 'em on the car, and im pretty sure i wouldnt like 'em on an X. they are just way too "Crysler LeBaron Limited" looking.

but ultimately, it is your truck, and you should do what YOU want. no one here is gonna give you a hard time if you do get them. :)

I wont be getting them.

As for the Cobra Rs, they look pretty sweet in the gun metal finish.

speaking of cobra R's, does anyone have any pics on chrome cobra r's on an X.
thanks
danny

did you find them for sale powder coated or see a pic somewhere??

I don't think they sell powder coated Cobra R's so that guy I saw had to of had it custom made. It was gorgeous though, you could tell they we're the 18" and not the 17" Cobras that just about everyone has, and being black powder coated on a black Explorer with dual exhaust was plain menacing, it looked extremely aggressive. I loved how he left the emblems alone so you could still see the Cobra snake in red which looked awsome on the black rims.

I've seen a few pictures of different people with them, I guess they were custom done.

Kenne Bell has an all black 03 cobra, slammed on some y2k cobra Rs in gunmetal OMG thats a mean SOB!!!

I say get some better rims than that. There were a few pretty decent rims when I was shopping for 18s on ebay one day. Though I am against cobra r rims on Xs now. Its overdone and you can find something a lil more original.
