Okay, I was doing a little looking around online because my second A4LD is already feeling like it is starting to slip, and I read that the 4R55E tranny is mechanically identical to the A4LD. Does that mean that I could feasibly swap the two, or is there an issue that I haven't taken into consideration? Would I need a new computer, and would everything (transfer case, etc.) bolt right in? I did a search, but the answers I found were less than conclusive. I am just getting sick of working on the A4LD and would like to just drive for a while without having to crawl under the ex and take a bath in tranny fluid every time it acts up! Thanks in advance,
Jason

The 4R, and 5R transmissions use electronic valve bodies, and other sensors. You would need an entire wiring harness, computer, and possibly have to switch a few things on the engine. Just rebuild it with 5R parts to make it into a Frankentranny to avoid electrical gremlins from popping up. Another option is to get adapters to use a 700R4 or follow the sticky on the 5R55S swap.

Do you mean use 4R55E parts ot rebuild the A4LD? Will I need to get both rebuild kits and then use what fits from each, or do I just need to get the 4R55E rebuild kit? Also, is the 700R4 a lot better than the A4LD?

The sticky called Project Frankentranny has the information you will need to swap these parts into an A4LD. The 700R4 is used on a GM V8 engine so it's made to be stronger, but it requires special adapters to make it fit. I think you are better off making an A4LD Frankentranny. The 5R55S swap is another option which you could read about in the sticky threads.

I have chance to get a 4r55e for 100$ rebuilt last year for 2000$ but the guys still have the bills an dont need it anymore. What are the sensorss that are different form the A4ld and the 4r55e ?? Can i just swap the valve body so it will eb mechanical again like the a4ld ??

So even if i pay 100$ for a rebuilt tranny it dont worth the job?

how much could i resell it ?? for 100$ a rebuilt tranny its damn cheap so i could make money from it heheh

Well if they only want a 100 for a rebuilt tranny, then it is probably a soft rebuild. I would try the Frankentranny.

it was rebuild with the modified valve body for off road application and other but the guy trade this 4r55e for a 5r55e because he go from v6 to v8

?? that's a new one for me. I didn't know there was any adapter to fit a 5R to a V-8. what engine (V-8) was he using ? what kind of vehicle did the 5R come out of ?

.....jjf

I think hes running the 302 engine but dont as me how i dont know :P This guy must be a genius or did the parts himself.
