Out with the old, in with the new. New to me Ex V8 Limited

The Explorer had the 15" limited wheels when I bought it. I switched the wheels from my old Explorer before I sold it.

Did you already adjust your Speedo for the new wheels. If not, go to any Ford dealer and they can do it with their scan tool. That is the way it was on my 00.

Yes, the old tires were 29" tall if stock, the 16's will be 30" if stock 255/70/16's. I've had both between two trucks, and various sizes from 29.5" to 30.5" also.

The 30" size was the closest to a dead accurate speedometer, going by many speed displays along the roads over the years.

On my 99 Limited now I've got 29.5" tires, a 245/70/16 size, but I'm aiming for a 255/65/16 the next time. I like the 29" size for street use and better handling(lower series) on a basic driver not for anything special. It is good to know that you can get the speedometer adjusted.

I have not gotten the speedometer adjusted yet. My new tires are 265/75/16 and measure just under 32" tall. At 80mph, the speedometer reads about 72 or 73mph. I have been using my gps for accurate speed but I do need to get it adjusted to allow for proper shift points and mileage.

How much does the dealership charge for this? I was thinking of waiting until getting headers and having a performance shop preform a custom tune for both the headers and adjust the speedometer. Kill two birds with one stone.

Right now, my Explorer rides like a truck. I feel every bump. My old v6 limited seemed to ride much smoother like it had lower spring rates. Maybe because the v6 motor weighed less. I know cranking the torsion bars to achieve 2" of lift in the front did not help anything. I bought some cheap monroe shocks for the time being.

What shocks do you guys recommend for the best all around ride? I have replaced almost all the front suspension components except for the tie rods.

Bilstein, rancho, kyb???

I think my Explorer will be retired as my daily driver hopefully in the next few months when I start my new job. I will need something with better gas mileage since I will be commuting. The Explorer will turn into a tow rig/ work truck/ toy. I sill want it to drive nice though because I enjoy driving it.

I think the Bilstein shocks will be about the best unless it will see much more off road use, and then I don't know. This forum is full of excellent members and examples to follow.

Well guys, the old Ex has finally been retired and will be my toy/ work truck for stuff around the house. Let the serious mods begins!

I just bought a 2011 Bmw 335D. Twin turbo diesel. 425lbs of torque stock and gets 36mpg on the highway. With a tuner, it will go 0-60 in 4.5 seconds.
