My old setup had a 12in JL Audio subwoofer in a box mounted in the cargo area. It gave out amazing bass, but was too big. Took up all the space in the rear. So that means it had to go.
I decided to buy a 8in Rockford Fosgate 300watt subwoofer. I found a pretty good deal on it, so why not. You guys suggested a 10in, and bevel out the factory location for that to fit, but I honestly didnt have the time/tools to do that.

Getting the factory "box"out was a real *****. But, I got it out.

next was time to mount the woofer. I liked the look of it being backwards.

It sounds pretty decent being powered by a 500watt amp....

I am in the process of making a hole in the factory subwoofer faceplate. I hope to post pictures of it when its finally done.

did you reverse the phase on your sub since its mounted backwards?
500W to a 500W 8" in teh factory box, I would LOVE to hear it, I bet it sounds good :)

Did you stuff the box with polyfill? You might want to try that, fools the speaker into thinking its a larger enclosure

Yeah, Polyfill was used.
I heard mixed responses with phase reversal. Im not exactly sure how much of a difference it would make, but Ill try it and see how it sounds.
It sounds really decent now though. Not a huge thump, but enough to make the rear view mirror to shake a bit. Though im a fan of bass, I cant justify the room the 12in box took up. Im fine and dandy with the thump of the 8in.

I am with you 100%, my days of trunks filled with sub boxes have been over for years. I am a big fan of small sub enclosures that still give you teh low end fill.... cargo space is important!

I say good job!

I traded in my old car and got a SUV because I needed more room to move stuff back and forth. What happens 2 days later? I install the system with box. Loose all my cargo space.
Thanks for the compliments.

For ***** and giggles here's a picture of the old sub box....

phase does not have to be reversed...it depends on the situation..In my truck it is louder and sounds better with the sub out of phase with the speakers.

Its good to switch and see what sounds better.

its good to see some pics of this in an ex. i was on the fence about doing this with my audiobahn awp310t but now it will happen. it seems like this is a good idea as it provides more cuft and protects the speaker itself from damage. and you dont lose that much cargo space.

I prepared myself for a all day job, but it only took about a half hour.
I was able to bend the plastic back wall down without taking off the seat belt bolt. I only did that because I didn't have a tool to fit the bolt head for the seat belt. The plastic is incredibly bendable without any damage being done. I highly recommend getting the hex key though to get the seat belt bolt out.
The factory sub box is held in with only 3 screws I believe also. Wanna say they are 5/16's if I remember correctly.
New holes had to be drilled in the box for the sub to be secured properly.
