I've recently replaced my camshaft synchronizer due to an unbearable squeaking sound it let out the whole time I drove. Ever since then my engine has run a bit rough and its lost power I'm also popping the p1309 code. I've done research on replacing the synchronizer and realized I didn't have the #1 cylinder at tdc and my synchronizer is sitting at the 5 o'clock position instead of being centered with the engine but that's how it came out. I've read that I can feel for the #1 cylinder to compress and reinstall it or look at the timing chain for a mark through a hole. My question is where is that hole to look at the timing chain and what mark am I looking for on it exactly? I appreciate any help you guys can give as this is my daily driver
I have a 2000 mounty v8

The timing marks are on the harmonic balancer itself. There is a small metal tab attached to the front passenger side of the engine block that lines up with the timing marks. At the 0 degree position it can be the top of the compression stroke or the top of the exhaust stroke that is why you need to feel with your finger to see which one it is. You also would benefit from having the alignment tool to install the synchronizer.
