I have a 2000 xls with the ohv engine.

I have the above cel code.

Crying in shame I brought the thing to
the dealer. 736.00 exchanged hands and
I still have the code.

Dealer said "p1309 is a tough one--could be
anything--- electrical pickup..."

I took that to mean "goodbye and good luck"
They told me to try replacing sparkplug wires
as they may be causing pickup.

They replaced the camshaft pos sensor
and an oxygen sender..plus replaced the upper
intake gasket. I made it 100 yards
out of the dealer lot and the light came back
on....same code p1309

did you/they check the crankshaft position sensor? It could also be a bad pcm however IMO the dealer did a terrible job. I wouldn't have paid for a $700+ bill when the best they can say is "it's a tough one". They're job is to diagnose the problem so they can properly fix it. In this case they threw parts at it in an attempt to fix the problem.

I have seen this before--yours has the 2 wire camshaft position sensor--which gets its ground through the alternator circuit--

the voltage regulator in the alternator could be at fault here--serious. It may give a noisy ground signal--
