So I'm replacing the hood and both front fenders soon, and was wondering if you guys think I should take it to get painted and pay a good bit, or try my luck with a paint gun and order the paint online? I'm not too worried about it being perfect, and may eventually get a full paint job one day. I'm just worried that if I paint a part that isn't the same color as the car already, then it wouldn't match up very well. Thanks for any input dudes.

Ryan, if you have the paint equipment & a place to do it, I would say give it a shot, or you could try your local Maaco auto body & get an estimate to paint the front clip.

Tip: 95% of achieving a good paint job is in the preparation. If you have a paint gun and a compressor it is possible to get a pretty decent result at home. Don't even consider using rattle cans on large panels. If you're painting a door handle or maybe a gas door, a rattle can is fine.

You should prime your part first. If you start with a darker or lighter color part it will effect the color match. I painted a door handle recently and found I had to use a silver base coat in order to have the metallic red paint to match perfectly.

Thanks for the reply. This is a lot of help!

Or-since these are such common vehicles, you could scour the internet to find replacement panels in the correct color. Even if you have to spend a day driving, it will be more time and cost effective.

Just a thought.

If I didn't already have the hood and fender I would. Thanks for all the advice guys!
