Here's the story so far
I purchased a 2002 Explorer 4.0l (Australian export) which had a shot timing chain and had the ignition barrel damaged. I changed the timing chains etc reinstalled the engine and rebuilt the ignition barrel with new plunger and springs. The old key used to start the car but now it is completely dead.
I have tried to change out the steering column and PCU with a used set from the wrecker and no luck. I also took it to the local dealer to have the keys re=learnt and they said they couldn't get their code reader to talk to the car. They didn't have an auto electrician and couldn't tell me what was wrong, just said they couldn't fix it. What a joke!!!
The codes which are coming up look like there is a pats problem. B1681 and P1000. Is there a way to erase the key codes and re learn the modules without having to go to the dealer given that they can't do it? I understand that the dealer tool is the only way to do it.
Any help would be fantastic.
