Typically if you can shake it and hear a rattle inside it's okay.

If in doubt just replace it. It's covered by a lifetime warranty from Ford.

Thanks .... I think I will replace it Ive got 93000 and I dont belive its ever been replaced....and you said ford has a lifetime warranty....do I just call them and ask for a new one

Take it to Ford so they can match it up.

thanks alot

The PCV (Positive Crankcase Ventilation) valve regulates the pressure in the crankcase. It allows piston blowby gases and crankcase gases to be recycled into the combustion chamber so they can be burned. I would think that your O2 sensors would cause your gas mileage problem more than the PCV valve could. Either get a code puller, or have someone pull the codes on your engine. That would be a good place to start.

what exactly does a PCV valve do, and could it have anything to do with my poor gas miliage (only 12mpg with everything stock) ?

When you call and ask Ford to replace youir PCV valve under warranty at 93K miles you will get a lot of reluctance. The warranty on the PCV valve (at least on my '97 per the Warranty guide) is 60K miles. There is a statement in the booklet that say's Ford will replace the PCV valve at 60K miles at no charge to the consumer. When I asked Ford to replace mine at 60K under warranty they at first gave me a hard time. I had to show them where it said in my bookelt before they would do it under warranty. They said I was the first person to ever point that out to them. Who knows how many people they charged for it . I remember the same offer being in the manual for my '94 Ranger that I bought new also. I didn't keep it long enough to hit 60K miles though. The PCV does not have a lifetime warranty. Depending on how valuable your time is, it may be cheaper to just replace it yourself. The PCV valve only costs from $3 to $6 and takes a few minutes to swap (as long as you know where it is). If you make an appointment with Ford, you will probably have to leave it there for a half a day

I just did it myself it only takes about 10 seconds
I knew they were simple and cheap I just never new what the actual symptoms of a bad ones were

Thanks
Ryan
