okay okay you guys, people have been chopping BII's for years, there is no reason why the Explorer should be any different. Now the 2 door Explorer or Navajo is ALOT easier to chop then the 4 door for obvious reasons, it already have a line that you can cut across.
I have seen 3 convertible 4 doors to date and a single Navajo here in CO that was chopped. The Navajo is sweet!! IN fact he's a member here, I just cant remember who...
Now dont forget when you remove that sheetmetal the body will flex more and some of the rigidness of the body is lost.
Some sort of a tailgate will need to be fabricated as well, I guess just chop the top off the Explorer tailgate and hinge it from the bottom. Us BII guys are lucky as a Ranger tailgate will bolt on.
Now for those of you who said it would be easier to just trade for a Ranger, actually its alot of work both ways.
With a Ranger you would have to chop the rear of the cab make a floor, and add a back seat to get the same results....we all know its easier to remove material then it is to add........PLus everybody drives a Ranger, not everyone has the balls to chop their pride and Joy Explorer
I am still contemplating chopping my BII, I would have a custom soft top made by a custom canvas place, and also incorporate a full cage into the plans...
Convertible is better.
