pirelli vs. bfg vs. goodyear

my two main choices are between the pirelli scorpion AT and the BFG AT KO. my dad wants me to get goodyears but the are really expensive for the AT(but the MT look really cool). which is a better tire? for general offroad, mud/sand, and street use? also which tire is the best "bang for my buck"? i can get the pirelli for 75 apiece BFG AT KO for 113, goodyear AT for 130 and goodyear MT for 140. i dont want to really have to spend an arm and a leg for these because im in college(which means the only money i have is the change wedged in my seats)

BFG's??

Where did you get the quote on the BFG's, and what size are they. I got mine from Sears for under $100. They are the 235/75/15 however. It just may be something to look at. Oh by the way I love my BFG AT KO's. They see mostly street use and I have no complaints.

I've got the Pirellis and by far, they are the most affordable. I purchased mine after they won a shootout in Automobile magazine a few years back, compared to all the other big names, and in all conditions. They deliver a good ride on the street and being an A/T, they do well on the roads I travel on when I go camping. Very controllable and predictable in most condition...

I am 100 percent pro BFG. Put 30x9.5 KO T/A's on the Explorer. Love them. Put 225x50 Euro T/A's on the wife's Celica. Love them. I have no experience with other tires except the dreaded Firestone's, but I have not heard one bad word about BFG All Terrain KO T/A.

BFG's all the way!

tac0meat,
If it were an issue of money - get the Pirelli's. Only good reports about them. The best tire you mentioned in your list is the Goodyear MT/R's. You will find they are the best looking, strongest tire without going to a Mickey Thompson or other off-road specialist manufacturer. Depending on cash flow, I will be getting the Goodyear MT/R's or ProComp (if cash is low) when I finally get around to installing my lift...

unless my dad is willing to help pay for the tires it looks like im going to be getting the pirellis. some of my freinds have them and love them, i need to get some tires soon, it must have been dumb luck that i didnt get stuck in the mud today with my bald tires. thanks for the help guys

Well, I've got the Pirelli Scorpion AT's. I like them. Took them through some gooey mud, not deep or anything, but they didn't gum up. And they do look good. And some people on here when I was looking for tires said they liked them as well offroad as the BFG's. And two things that made me choose them was the price (cheaper then the BFG's) and that they have a mileage warranty (which the BFG's don't have). So unless you plan on doing extreme offroad (I wish I had some of the MTR's) you will probably do well with the Pirelli Scorpion AT's.

go with the bfg at ko's, i've had mine for about 12,000 miles, and i love 'em. they grip like nothing i've ever seen in rain. i don't do much wheeling, but on the road, there's nothing like them. and they look good , too!

Pirelli all the way!

Not only are the Pirelli's the least expensive, they are the only A/T's that have an 'S' speed rating (112 mph). Not saying that you will be going that fast, but it is nice to know that your tire will be able to handle those types of speeds. Also, like F'in Bob said they are the best overall tire in all conditions. You don't have to worry about hydroplaning like you do with the Firestones, plus they have a much quieter and smoother ride. I have had mine for about 10,000 miles and I have driven through rain, snow, mud, gravel and sand without ever losing traction. You won't regret it!

I'd definetely go with the BFG A/t, They're great , my brother got's them on his Z71 and says he loves them. I think they work really well. what size were u planning to get, 30x9.50s??

would have gotten back to yall later but computer's been busted, my dad is a die hard goodyear fan and was willin to pay the difference in price between the gooyears and pirellis. i got the goodyear AT 31x10.50, i havent taken them off road but me street traction is incredible!i do get a little rubbing though on the drivers side when fully turned to the left but i think that will be fixed once i get the springs retintioned and the coil spacer/warrior shackles done. thanks again for the all help guys
