Pizza boss said he doesn't want me delivering in my Explorer if it's leaking.

Spray down your steering shaft U joints with lots of fluid film, working it into the bearings. They can bind up and there are no repair parts. The fluid film will keep them going a long time. The lower U is likely exposed by now.
Where do I get this film? Where exactly am I spraying?

luid film is one of those rust protection film things its like spray. paint iirc

Maybe I have to give it more time for the ATP205 to work? So far it's been 325km that I've driven with the first bottle of ATP205 poured in. I think someone here said it took 1000 miles of driving before he noticed ATP205 working on his ford?

I checked the oil today cold and it was right on the max line. So far been driving it and it doesn't seem to leak any less with less oil.

If it leaks the same with less oil, then I may as well keep it overfilled by a quart just to give me peace of mind that I will never run low on oil.

How much oil is it from the Empty mark on the dipstick to the full hask mar, 1 qrt?
huh, nope it was 100 on this one at least. maybe the leak is already bad enough where oil level doesnt matter as long as theres pressure itll come out. that said, overfilling still isnt good, as it can cause more future leaks, and ive seen a video where someone put 10 (?) or somewhere like that quart in some honda accord, man that thing was burning oil!!!

Fluid Film is available in many autoparts stores, Amazon etc. It is an oil based rust preventative that does not work like paint or a barrier. It penetrates the rust and prevents it from getting worse. It coats non-rusted areas to prevent them from rusting. It is applied annually. Usually in the fall of the year.

Don’t run a quart overfilled. It’s bad for the engine. If you can’t check it enough that it just runs out of oil it shouldn’t be on the street.

Okay thanks. Never heard of Fluid Film before. I've been using Rust 3000 for years with great success but the dirt sticks to it over time and makes everything look black. But I spray it on rust and let it sit on a warm day and it literally melts the rust. Come back minutes later and I just wipe the rust off or I use a very small flat head screwdriver and scrap the rust off. The Fluid Film sounds very similar to Rust 3000.

Just 100 miles on yours? I think you're right, as long as there is pressure the oil comes out. I will give it more time. 10qrts over filled on the Accord? I didn't even think you could pour that much into an Accord.

K I will stop overfilling. I always thought it was fine for the engine as long as it's max 1 qrt over. I will just make a habit of checking the oil twice a week now as opposed to once a week before.

Isn't it worse though for the engine if you don't have the oil at the max line all the time and say it's running here and there at half full?

It’s way better to be a quart low. They are meant to use some oil. They are never intended to be over the max oil line. I’d rather run 3 quarts than 6. Being over full all the time is probably part of the reason some things leak. Overfill an engine enough abs you will blow out seals. You’ll also whip air into it, which essentially negates having oil.

Ok that makes sense. I will be sure to check the oil every few days and refill as needed. Is it a qrt of oil from the min. line to the max line on the dipstick?

Yes the hash marks on the dip stick cover 1 quart.

Real peace of mind comes from checking the dipstick every time you fuel up. You are more likely to leak when the engine is over filled.

Good point. I usually fill up every couple of days so I will make it a habit checking the dipstick then. But I've always made it a habit of checking the dipstick when the truck is cold because I was told when its hot, the reading will read higher than it really is. Not sure how true this is.

So I wasn't gonna post in this thread because it almost seems like a troll thread but here's a bit of advice do not overfill the oil or any of the fluids for that matter if you do you will cause issues and almost certainly cause leaks and you could actually blow out the seals that are already leaking just keep it in between min and max and drive it and check the oil every fill-up and you should be good to go

Beating a dead horse, but a little amplification.

Running low can cause elevated oil temperatures, and potential oil starvation at high RPM, under aggressive accel/decel/cornering, and/or unusual attitudes (offroading, etc). That said, liquid cooled engines don't usually get oil as hot, so it's less of a concern here.

Overfilling was covered well by Mbrooks.

Ideally? Keep the oil level in the hashed area on the stick. Technically, it should be a quart from bottom to top of the hashed mark, but I've found it to be a little less---so don't blindly dump a quart in. Start with a half, and eek it up to the full line, and you'll know how much to add the next time you hit the bottom of the hashed area.

Thank you. I topped off last night and just added 1/4 of a quart. Will check again tomorrow and fill up as needed again.

It uses almost as much oil as it does gas.

Still hoping the AT205 works. Been about 600km now since I put the first bottle in. Got one bottle left. One guy on Amazon mentioned that he didn't notice it working on his car until he added the second bottle.

To be fair that stuff is used for minor leaks and medium leaks I don't think it will solve your issue 100%
