- 1993 explorer
My mother has a 93 explorer that i bought for her.
I live in vegas and she lives in AZ.
She said it was running a little rough on her way to work and when she started it to go home she said it ran roughly for a few seconds and then would not re- start.
Her friend looked at it and went and bought a new feul pump and that is when she called me to drop the tank and replace it because her friend is too old to be doing that heavy of work.
I called my buddy and he met me at the her place of work. the engine turns over and nothing happens. we checked the fuel pump and it starts up and primes. we checked the release valve on the manifold and got a good spray.
We them turned it over and checked for spark and got nothing.
we took the pump back with the reciept and changed it for a new coil pack. still nothing.
we replaced the ignition switch under the steering column. still nothing.
i swapped the relays to check the eec and still nothing. all fuses are good.
I gave up for the day and made the 1 1/2hr trip again the next week with a new eec computer. wee installed it and still nothing. I consider myself a pretty good weekend mechanic but i am now drawing blanks.
We did find some wires to some fog lights that shorted out and burnt all the way from the solenoid to the switch on the dashboard. we removed them. My mother said that the truck would sometimes turn over by itself. we established that the faulty wires were arching from the positive post to the solenoid and were running under the battery. we checked all other wires and they were visibly ok. we did not check the crank sensor. i just checked the connection and it was fine. ny help or feedback would be greatly appreciated.
