Please help!! Where do I add tranny fluid after changing tranny filter??

I have a 2003 explorer xlt awd and I just finished putting the new filter in and now I cannot find the fill plug and it doesn't have a filler tube..

Could someone please tell me where to add tranny fluid??

I need to get to work in the morning..

Looks like it's a "sealed" unit. Some manufacturers have dip sticks that will fit into those plug holes, but I'm sure for a pretty penny you can get one too.

You have to put the fluid back in through the middle of the drain plug. Takes about a 5/16" allen wrench. Hold on to the drain plug and remove the fill plug. Use a 1/8" pipe nipple and screw up into the drain plug. Then you will need a suction gun to suck up some fluid and blow it back out up through the nipple (I used a piece of tube between the gun and the nipple.).
It will take about two quarts to fill the pan until fluid begins running back out through the nipple. Start your car, leave it in park, and put fluid in until it begins to run back out through nipple. THis will take about 2 - 2 1/2 quarts OVER AND ABOVE what you put in with the car not running.
Let it dribble for a minute or two, then remove the pipe nipple and put the plug back in. You should be good to go.

On my tranny ('02 XLT) that fill plug shown in the picture above is not there. The nipple is there, but it was never drilled and tapped for a pipe plug. It is a smooth end. Hence, the fill procedure above.

Thanks for the insight guys..I had no idea when I began to change the filter that this tranny has no seperate fill plug..I only lost about 4 quarts of atf..

It is sunday evening and I cannot purchase the items needed to fill it myself..So I am just going to go up the street to the quick lube and have it flushed and filled first thing in the morning before work..I don't think going a few blocks will cause any harm..

Andrew,

Before they take you off the rack, make them check it with the engine running. Don't listen to the flush deal of "I put just the right amount in."
