So im gonna stick with Motorcraft parts. I saw the platinum plugs, what does everyone think of them? Should I go with copper or platinum. The exploder has 135k on it and I have not done the plugs/wires/cap in the 30k I have had it.

you can't go wrong with Motorcraft. i use the Motorcraft (or Autolite) double platinum in my V8's gaped to .054. do not use copper plugs. single platinum are okay.

OE are double platinum. That's the minimum for the Ford's waste spark ignition system.
Of course, fine tip plugs (like iridium with platinum ground strap) would improve the fuel economy, but who wants that?

Anyone know the difference in wires based on manufacturers date? I notice some kits don't differentiate yet some do...thanks

Bill

Hello 5.0L V-8!

No distributor cap. The 5.0L in the Explorers uses distributorless coil pack ignition. I believe it is refered to as 'EDIS'
Electronic Distributorless Ignition System.

Ok, the earlier v8 (96-some 97's) has an internal egr with no egr tube on the exhaust manifold. The angle of the sprak plugs are also different between the 2 head styles. Early models have gt-40 heads, later are gt40-p heads

The exhaust manifolds are different on late 98-2001 v8 also.

The design of the heat shields on the boots will be the difference you notice between the different spark plug wire choices.

Now I just need to know the motorcraft part number for a new distributor cap! Anyone got it?!? :D
Believe that was intended as a joke, although he forgot to include breaker points, condenser, and rotor. ;)

Has it really been almost 40 years auto makers have gone to breakerless ignitions and over 20 years for EFI?

Hawaii, now that i think about it, I guess I never have seen a cap and rotor under the hood XD
Anyone else got some semi cheap tune up jobs that i should be looking into on an exploder with 135k?

$5 is definitely for each plug. I love Amazon for great pricing, no tax, and usually free shipping.

NEVER rely on Amazon for fitment guides, images, or descriptions. RockAuto rules for accuracy.

Amazon really is great for pricing.
Its like a limp dick, ya cant beat it. lol
