Turdle has mentioned the two most frequent causes
of that code. On my Ranger, it turned out to be the
fuel cap.

check your fuel filler neck and make sure it isn't rotting away.

the filler neck is rotting away,this much i know as i had to work on it before,these are expensive and i dont see any reasonable way to fabricate one.to me this was a poor design ,the filler neck that is.

RockAuto's price for a new one isn't too bad.

PLATINUM PRO Part # FFN010067
$77.79

DORMAN Part # 577932 {#XL2Z9034CA}
$84.99

SPECTRA PREMIUM / COOLING DEPOT Part # FN633 {#XL2Z9034CA}
$92.99

Amazon's price for the Dorman is about the same w/free shipping

ebay has the best price i found w/free shipping. used (gotta love southern vehicles) but looks good for $59.
