hey so i finally got the polyester fiber fill to put in my box, the audiobahn sub booklet says for the box to be 50% polyesterfiber fill...... my question is should this be tightly packed in, or placed in quite fluff like?

i don't quite understand the fiber fill? can anybody explain the reason for this stuff to me? i heard that it slows down the air waves in the box....thats all i know

thanks

What kind of box are you putting that in:D

a 1.5cuft sealed box

I wonder if that would make mine sound any better i have the same box for two jl w3's they will pound your melon off your shoulders:cool:

check the SPEC sheet on it, most manufactures will tell u if the box should be filled with it.

ah i need my melon for other things!!!

Hey elite what kind of subs are you putting in:D

its in right now.

1 audiobahn aw1200 sub... 12 in sub holds 700 w rms
powered by a audiobahn amp that puts out 560w rms
all in a custom box ...i got pictures if you like to see

yeah I would like to hear a little more about the filling process. I might try it to see if it makes a difference on mine.

From what I was told is it makes the sub think it is in a bigger box? Now what that does to the sound I don't know.

holy **** the sub has a mind of its own!!?? OH NO, we all are doomed! hehhehe

Yea now that i think about it i did once hear that too.....
no one can inform us on this process and whats its advantages are?

Yes, the fill will slow down the sound waves inside the box, as if the sub was in a larger box. This has two benefits:

1) It is easier to hit lower frequencies
2) If you are short on trunk space, you can build your box a little smaller than spec and fill it with the fiber fill to get the same sound you'd get from a larger box, but without taking up all that room.

Elite I would like to see some pics please. Are you using the same fill you can get at a sewing shop?:D

yep yep,
wal-mart speical $2.50 for a big bag of it

I better ask Lee

This is sounding better and better. How much are putting in your box?I have some left over in my bandpass box but I have no idea how much to use:( I better ask lee i bet he knows

heres the pictures of my set up...

(lost photos)

Nice setup

I like that alot:D Give yourself a pat on the back:)

actually i just came up with the design, my buddy built it for me, and i carpeted it and installed everything,

heck i couldn't build anything with my crooked eye

hehehe

Does it pound pretty hard:hammer:

yea it hits quite well,
a Local Custom Car shop, heard it and wants me to go to a Sound Off with them in a couple weeks, I don't think it hits that hard, but i might go, just to see what SPL i hit..

Mine changed dramatically when i went to a sealed enclosure it is like night and day from that bandpass. Then I replaced all the component speakers and put tweeters in,then last but not least my eclipse deck.I am very happy with mine:D
