OK, I did some searches on the forum and I didn't get anything that addressed this issue, so I appologize if it's been addressed already, but;

I wondered, I have some 15x8 aluminum wheels (Eagle Alloy 117's) and I am going back to OEM wheels to run 265's, I wondered if anyone knows if it is feasible to turn in my aluminum wheels for money as scrap aluminum?

I haven't called any recycle shops, I just don't know if I want to hastle selling my wheels for say ~ $110 or so if I can just scrap them for the same or more? So does anyone know? Surely, I'm not the first to think of it... I just don't know if Aluminum and metals, impurities, etc. is an issue. I'll call metal shops on Monday to see if the 100 lbs of wheels (4) is worth anything from a scrapper standpoint. Thanks.

For stock explorer rims rims I get about $13 each at the recycler, you need to remove the valve stem and any weights.

At my local recyclers, aluminum wheels bring more per pound than any other form of aluminum.

Yup--it is good aluminum and around here the wheels grab .65 lb

IN fact-they are so valuable I have to question whether I redo them, or just scrap 'em. It cost me about 60.00 out of pocket just to strip a set of wheels clean enough to put a blast finish on.

The only reason I do powdercoat and sell a set of wheels ( ones I have little or nothing into BTW) is to just do it. There is no money there to pay for the time.--( compared to scrapping)

Thanks for the replies... I'll look into it before I decide to sell them or scrap them.

Too bad I'm not in CA. anymore.... I'd get a ton more for the aluminum if I were there!!! ;)
