Two questions, really...

I like this Explorer ( http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.jsp?car_id=179369733 ) , but I want to know:

1. Is this a good deal? Are the miles too high?

2. What is the model? I found a thread delineating the differences between Sports, XLs, etc...but it thoroughly confused me. This has leather, cd, sunroof, auto v6....

Sorry, I tried to "cut and paste" a pic to make it easier, but it didn't work on the first try and I'm tired, so I'm hoping you'll have pity on me! :)

Thanks in advance for any help, and please be honest!!!

I have a 98 Sport and my mileage is 120xxx. I have had no serious issues what so ever in my truck.
A Sport has 2 doors and that truck is a Sport.

I dont really know if thats a good deal or not but I figured Id give you input on how my truck is doing at 120k since your worried about mileage.

The price is a little high. I'd sport it for $6500 or so.

thx, my mother had a 96 and it never had any issues, even after going well over 150k, but i don't know, something about buying a car that already has 90k on it is scary...

i currently have a 2002.5 Mazda Protege 5 and it's just too small, and i'm tired of the whole import scene. my car is clean and neat, no flashy vinyls, rice rocket exhaust, etc but i hate being associated with some of the people starting to crap up their rides, as we say....

my main reason behind getting an x is for the ride height and the styling...i won't have to do much to make it look good because it already does!!!

more opinions welcomed!!!

Yeah I agree, price is abit high, def needs to go lower tho. Nice lookin truck...looks like mine minus 2 doors

That's what I thought, but KBB says that a price in that range is correct. I guess that's what the dealer's going by.

How low do you guys think I could talk them down? (Reasonably)

It is not a bad price you should be able to take it home for $6500. They are going through auctoin for about $3,500 - $5,000 the high end being beeing 4door 4wheel drive. But if i were to buy one i would make sure that it is 4 wheel drive.

It's a little under value, so it's an OK price, but you could find one cheaper. It's a Sport. The most important question is, OHV or SOHC?

Just remember that no matter what some book says some thing is only worth what people will pay for it. go for the Market Value.

okay....newb response coming....

what's the diff? (ohv and sohc)

SOHC is the one you want and OHV isn't :p SOHC has more power.

gotcha

:)

(i'm doing a search for more in depth info...)

SOHC (single over head cam) OHV (over head valve) which is the typical engine they made for years. I think the 4.0 OHV has around 160 or so horse and the 4.0 SOHC has just over 200. It also seems to get better fuel economy. Maybe I am wrong about that. Not positive.

(once again i'm a newb....prefacing myself to keep from further embarrassment)

does the "This vehicle has a 4.0L V6 EFI engine" tell you anything? (What is EFI?)

That just says its on of the 4.0 engines. Does it have the VIN posted? The eighth digit is an E for the 4.0 SOHC. I am not sure what the 4.0 OHV is.

EFI is electronic fuel injection. Ford quit using carbs in the 80's I think.

VIN: 1fmyu60e8yua81450

Another question: how hard is it to find explorers like this one? I want it to be a two door, black w/silver (or is that gold?) trim, leather, sunroof....

(And I only like this body style)

I know you can't say if one is coming up for sale two hours from me, but my question pertains to the total number produced....was it rare to find one w/this sort of combo?

No answer there. I just bought mine in January. I looked all over the net and finally found mine about 5 hours from home. I looked at hundreds and E-mailed for info on quite a few. I don't mind a drive to get the right one.

I was not looking for a color, but rather 4 door, 4X4, 4.0 SOHC, and all the options I wanted in a price range I could afford. I found exactly what I wanted, but I did not choose this color. I happen to like it though, so its all good.

nice truck, like they say, the 4.0 is very thirsty,, gas wise, Try to get it 6,2500. It's two wheel drive and the demand for a 2 door suv is very , very low!!! Lots of dealers wont touch them, I've seen my dealer rep pass on every 2 door cause it will sit on the lot so that is a good thing for a buyer, but it's sharp and if you really like it go for it! Looks like it's in great condiition,

Very thirsty? Hmmm...I have a 2 ton 4X4 and get 20 with me driving it hard in these hills and curves. Around here I see tons of the two door models on the road. Personally I like the 4 door one, but I won't go back to a 4X2 if I have a choice (3-4X4s in a row--see sig). If its exactly what you want, talk them down some and buy it.

With any used vehicle though, check it out carefully. You never know what was done to it previously.
