Since I have read lot of issues pertaining to Dorman's use of an inferior roll pin to secure the gear to the drive unit.
And
Since this is an issue which Dorman could fix for mere pennies per unit.
And I was bored
I decided to call their customer service about this. I was put in touch with the ( dangit I forgot to get her name) product developer's assistant.
I was told they were not aware of this issue.
I explained this was probably normal,, since when this part fails it very well likely could disbale the vehicle for good, due to a oil pressure loss. After such a dramatic repair the owner would toss it out thinking it was the oil pump which failed, and not want to perform an even more drastic repair.
Or
If they were lucky they would do as any normal mechanic and suspect the brand new part last-as being an issue. By this time the part is very hard to get out and "dorman" is the last who would be asked for help.
It is logical how this part failing could be the last straw for a lot of explorer's, or any other vehicle using the same part design.
So, they want documentation. Please post your Dorman synch drive failures here. Try not to rant, rather post facts, and what the issue caused you to do for remedy.
Thanks. I hope they look. They have asked me to email them info, and I think a link to this thread would do just great!! It might even help to post a link in here to your threads
PS
they do monitor forum activity. Please let's try to keep this professional and on the topic of this one part.
