I need some help guys!
Yesterday coming home from school, I rolled my driver side rear window down. 20 min later I decided to roll it back up....but it didn't go back up. i can hear the motor and everthing but the window doesn't move.
Well I took it apart this morn and found something. There's a wire that I guess moves the window up and down that seems to be stuck or snaged on something.
Has anyone else had this problem?
Any ideas on how to fix it? I got an appointment w/ the dealership but I'd rather fix it myself.
Thanks
Jaytee

Its not uncommon for the cable to break. The only fix is to replace the cable assembly. You can do this yourself if you have the tools (drill/bits or dremel). You will need to drill out the rivets that hold the assembly to the door and remove the window. Then you will need to remove the assembly and swap the motor onto the new assy. Reinstall the assy. and either rivet it back in place or you can use #10 machine screws and bolt it in (use locktite on the threads). Reinstall the window and the door panel.

Almost forgot! If you do take it to the dealer, don't let them convince you that you need to replace the motor and assembly as a unit (they are sold as individual parts) and if you can hear your motor runnins you know it still works.

Mr Boyle is right. My mom has had all four of her windows break at least once in her 95 Crown Vic. Seems to be the weak spot in that car. The procedure described above seems correct to me. But be REALLY careful when drilling out the rivets that hold on to the glass. Learned that the hard way !!CRACK!!

Well thanks for your advice guys. I decided to just take it to the dealer....no time to work on it myself. I'll be sure to tell them to ONLY replace the assembley.
One question though....how much did this Cable Assembley cost?
Thanks

Hey guys....went to the dealership this morn and got the price on a new cable assembly/regulator....$232.00
Does that seem right?
Seems a little high for one window.
Thanks
Jaytee

i dont know but 230 bucks sounds as if you could go to a junkyard and get the whole door and window and trim and assembly for way under that
