Pro -M, PMAS whichever they are now

I unplugged it and the engine died right away-
it would not start--

Now check this--
I was reading through the pro-m maf tuner stuff-
there is a Maf "match " feature-it will "use" a particular maf, and "match" the maf to the car-
In other words-I could select "lightning maf" for "use" and "42 lb cobra" for "match"

Right now I am using "pro-m 42" for "use" and "42lb cobra" for "match" to get it to work with the stock PCM.

These flow curves are flashed into the pro-m maf tuner box's EPROM which in turn Modifies the Maf signal

yes, if the stock meter will bolt into the housing you are using, that is the way I would go.

The truck would never start up and run properly because of the bigger injectors. Not only that he is using a cal'd meter with a maf tuner. The time it would take to get this system dialed in he could setup a time to remote tune easier.

Try bolting the lightning meter in that housing. You can re-adjust your MAF calibration through your tuner can't you?

The Lightning meter will not mount in the Pro-crap housing. The Pro-m has the cal tube integrated into the meter housing and the Lightning meter has the cal tube (tonsil) integrated onto the electronics. The Pro-m has a hole in the housing roughly the 1/2" in size versus the L-meter has a hole in the housing the size of a quarter. So this would be a no-go.

It would work fine, just as replacing your stock Ford Hitachi MAF sensor with a generic sensor from any auto parts store as long as the calibration was set to the proper injector size.

Sorry, but wrong again. Dont forget Jon has larger injectors. Truck would run very poorly. It would be hard to determine whether the engine or the tranny had problems after that.

This was my suspicion. The later model EEC-v vehicles get very tempermental with the MAF disconnected. Please don't forget the MAF meter is the most important sensor on the whole vehicle. It determines load, spark and fueling, shift points, etc. I would recommend (for sh**s and giggles) install the Lightning maf and my tune and drive down the road to see if it shifts properly. My tunefile should be close enough to do that. Just don't get on it till we decide to do the final tuning. Otherwise a cruise should be fine. This will eliminate or incriminate the Pro-crap MAF meter.

Doug Studdard ( Bama Chips ) and I dyno tested the Pro M meter ( borrowed from Kevin [ MONMIX ] ) on my truck several years ago and concluded the stock Ford electronics in a C & L housing was the way to go.

I agree completely. The factory electronics are soooo much more stable and essentially the only thing you are getting from the C&L housing is the extended range as well as reducing the inlet restriction. I can take a EEC-iv vehicle install a BA-series meter or Lightning and tune it the same as a EEC-v and surprisingly the small driveability "glitches" these guys learn to live with a cal'd meter suddenly dissapears. Anyone stating/promoting a cal'd meter is so misinformed.

James you can fix this by going into the Autobot (like Optimus Prime) MAF Function drop down menu in the Advantage tuning software; it is right beside the torrs function. ;) :D:D:D:D:D

Or when I am at the track running 40 rods (linear measurement). Go look that one up!LOL

Do I get a cookie if I already know it? :p:

I have a Pro M MAF for 96+ Explorer- cal'd to 42# $75 to your door.

Sorry for posting inside thread but I havent gotten any responses/interest.

No Thank YEW

What's strange is after I did some work on my Mounty- I forgot to plug in my MAF- started and ran good enough I guess. Heck I drove it a short distance, throttle response was terrible but it ran and shifted OK :dunno: I didn't even get a CEL from that.

I forgot to plug mine in after switching intakes back and forth to hopefully find my 20mph dead spot problem, and it ran like crap, it ran but it wasn't pretty.
