problems with my TM headers

sorry I dont have the part numbers, I went to my local speed shop with a factory manifold and asked to look at their copper gaskets for 5.0L heads.

I quickly found some that would work no problem, All I had to do was oval the mouting holes a bit so the gasket would drop down 1/4" and line up with the ports on the head.

Are you guys tighting them correctly. You're supposed to start with the inside bolts and work your way out. See if you can find copper gaskets and use copper sealant too/.

when i did my install i did it to spec... inside out then ran the truck got them hot and retorqued the bolts... not sure were i went wrong!!!!
but i will be goin to get some of them copper gaskets!

I got some gaskets from Napa, they are Fel Pro, kind of a perforated soft metal type. Only $9 for the pair. They have worked well so far.

My TM gaskets cracked just like 410's picture- they got very brittle, crumbled when they came out.

I am wondering about the instructions for the headers- wouldn't it break the threadlock torquing the bolts after running the engine? When I replaced my passenger side just a little bit back, it put threadlocker on the bolts, torqued them as much as possible while the locktite was still wet, then left them. No problems yet.

The bolts are so hard to get to that I wouldn't really want to tighten them when the motor is hot. I would surely burn myself. I removed and replaced as many of them (all but two) as I could tonight and used thread lock. So far so good. Much quieter. lol I know that my gaskets will crap out on me eventually though, so I better plan on replacing them at some point.

yea the bolts on the pass side right near the mount
were the worst to get to
i got a couple of nice burn marks from that 1!!!!

I haven't had much luck running Copper Gaskets....I have tried them on a few different Brands of motors....

Just my experience...
