Problems with the WONDERFUL A4LD

Hey everyone, Once in a while when im going about 50-60mph and I floor it to pass, my tranny will just go into neuteral and revv up. Then I let off of the gas and you can feel it clunk back into gear. So I try it again and it works. It does this to me a couple of times every week. Sometimes 2-3 times a day depending on how often I downshift. I do admit that I do alot of forced downshifts. Could this just be because I put alot of stress on the tranny with my driving style? I drive backroads every day to my girlfriends house which is 25 miles from my house. There are allot of twisty,hillys roads around her house and the truck is constantly downshifting. Is this bad on it? Also, I drive about 75-80mph down the freeway towards her house, and I downshift to pass all the time. Any ideas on what is happening? With this type of driving, Iv really been considering getting another tranny cooler. I have another stock 92 tranny cooler from my parts truck sitting in the garage. Would it help the tranny at all if I stuck that tranny cooler in line with the stock one that is already on my truck?

From what it sounds like, you have valves hanging up on hard shifts. That could be from old oil, additives in the oil, or just plain grunge in the valve body. (It could also be loose valve body bolts that let the pressure escape - check their torque.)

You can add multiple coolers - but don't bypass the stock one in the radiator. That does the most work of all of them. Just supplement that one with a larger one.

Plate style coolers work better than tube and fin types. Check 410fortune's thread on a new cooler set up.
