Project Double R...

Yes I have a issues I can't stop messing with these Fords. This is my personal project, but not my first SAS Ranger project built one for buddy and he helped me. Which was my 2nd Ford SAS my first Ford SAS was my DD Project Merc (98 Mercury Mountaineer 5.0 V8). Already have about 20k miles on the Merc in little over a year.

Already sold the 8.8 and bed off it. I will be keeping this one pretty simple very similar to TNT.
Things I will be doing...
Trussed Cherokee High pinion Dana 30/ Explorer disc brake 8.8 4.56 gears.
Flatbed
Exo cage
Bronco II tank
Chevy 63-64" leafs
Shorten wheel base to 110"
And a lot more. Should be starting this beast next week I hope. Depends how the new kitchen goes for the boss(my wife for those not married).

And for those wondering why the Dana 30 they are cheap and parts are easy to come by. Which is nice if you do need replacement parts. The Mercs D30 has held up to over 13 trails and 35s with beadlocks without breakage so I would say it is very good axle.

I think Double R is missing a fender bar???

LOL. Which size tube do you use on your exo's, bumper's and slider's? I plan on doing a full exo on my Trac after I do my SAS. My bed will eventually come off as well because it's fiberglass. Gonna build something similair to this...

Sorry, not trying to hijack, just needing some advice from the expert on the subject.

The bed, front bumper, and bed roll bar are 1.75 .120" wall HREW. The cab part is 1.5" .120" wall DOM. I still have more tube to add to cab when I have time. Once the weather breaks and days get longer I will be more motivated. Need to finish up the Aviator too. Plus I got mods coming to the Merc. And I almost have all the parts for a new build I am working on. Oh and I have 2wd SAS coming up too. It was a high of 14 today so I didn't get much done. LOL

Great looking Ranger. I have to look into those lights.

How are you going to make this double r jealous of 2.0?

Hey man,

I have an '89 Ranger that's my current DD/Project. I'm looking to SAS it and I had a few questions for ya..
I was wondering what axles front and rear you went with, and what vehicle they came out of originally? Also, what springs/shocks did you go with?

All that info is in the first few pages of the build with pics. Reading it would be more useful to you then me just telling you.

On another note I got Lazyboy flexing like a beast!

Damn thats a sweet Aviator. BTW was it a pain to covert those style chassis? I was talking to a co-worker about your Aviator. Wanting to do it to a 4.6 explorer.

It wasn't bad. just have to lift them a ton to clear everything. Hardest part was the steering box. It was worse then the Merc. Which I thought sucked. lol
