So since its spring break and I have some free time on my hands i decided to do some spring cleaning, and what better to clean then the X? I went to Kragen and got some CRC Air Intake Cleaner and CRC Mass Air Flow Sensor Cleaner and let me tell you these things work wonders.
,
After reading several posts I decided the best things to recieve a good cleaning would be the MAF Sensor, Throttle Body and IAC, and boy did they ever!
So I start takin it all apart, get a nice pile of crap...
First up, the MAF Sensor, Simple enough take off the Volant CAI and detatch the cone filter.
Then Spray away, the CRC MAF Cleaner dries really quick and did a great job cleanin everything out.
Next up was the Throttle Body, After disconnecting the throttle and cruise control cables and electrical connector , there were four bolts to remove, holding it on to the intake manifold.
The front looked pretty good
But then I took a look at the other side and HOLY $H!T!!
Caked in black. Luckily the Air-Intake Cleaner took care of all that crap no problem.
Finally got that sucker cleaned after playing the spray, wipe and repeat game but i think it looks pretty good. :biggthump
I also cleaned the IAC, but theres nothing special there, unbolt/disconnect spray, wipe, repeat. Then put it all back together.
Heres a pic of my world famous Paper Towel Mod (Prior to Cleaning) http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=184497
Its been a good day, the X runs much better and idles a lot smoother. I hope I will see some improvment in gas mileage soon.
NOW GO OUT AND CLEAN!!!!!
