Hey people,
I am new to this forum. I have a 98 explorer xlt 5.0L V8 that my uncle passed down to me. All I did was put in a nice sound system. But I was curious about putting in a cold air intake, I only found 2 that would fit. One of them is the MAC3659 v8 intake. My question is, once I install this new intake, do I have to mess around with the computer or anything else in my explorer?

Just disconect your batt for a few min to reset.

You don't have to do anything else, just install the intake like the directions say. However, you should disconnect the negative battery cable and leave it off while you install the intake. This will reset the computer and allow it to relearn the settings and changes caused by the intake. Other than that the computer will take care of adjusting for the changes.

You beat me to it :), I'm trying to multitask here.

Thanks! BTW, any suggestions on which intake to buy? Are they all basically the same, I was reading some posts and the MAC seems to be popular.

The Mac is a good intake-

I'd buy it here--

www.hensonperformance.com

Then you should plan on getting Torquemonster headers
You will find a discount on them in the vendor forum.

After the headers-I would Go back to James for tuning. Do these things and you will pick up quite a bit of power.

The reason you have found two is because there is a unit for the 1996 and a unit for the 1997-01 models. You will need part# 3659. If you would like to order from me you can go here. Later-j

Thanks Jah, just ordered it today. I was the guy to call about my billing adress.

I about to make my own with the directions I found here...Just cant find a cheap cone-style Air Filter for my V8 EB.

Hope this isn't a thread-jack...
Would this work for any year Explorer? I want to add a cold air intake to my 08 Limited with a V8 and was wondering the same thing about re-tuning the cpu.

Yes I can tune any ECU and the cold air kits aren't available for your application, yet! Contact me if interested. Thank you-j

Well, I believe I am a little far away to have you tune my engine but thanks for the response. I was really wondering if the removal of the battery cables would be sufficient for resetting the cpu if an intake was installed. And since you mentioned it, do you know when an intake would be available? I thought I saw one already, maybe I'm mistaken.

Actually
James tuned My truck in Kansas while he was in Alabama.

Remote tuning. Jon has a thread on it in the need for speed section. Link
