I own a 99 explorer xlt with with the 4.0 sohc and and 4 speed auto. I started thinking about doing a 5 speed swap, since i wanna cut the floor for a 1354 manual t-case anyway, and the trans is startin to lose 1st gear.
Anyway, my question is about what i should get the trans from. My friends found a second gen explorer sport, theyre not sure of the year, with the 4.0 OHV in the junkyard with a 5 speed and 2 wheel drive. They didnt check on the mileage, but said it looked clean and it was turned in for cash for clunkers. Would that trans bolt to my sohc? And what needs to be done so i can bolt a t-case to it? Could i take the pedal assembly from the sport? Also, is there any factory driveshaft id be able to use for both the back and front, or at least the back? Or is custom lenghts required? And if i can use the trans and pedal assembly, what else should i grab? I figured id buy a new clutch and slave cylinder and what not instead of using old stuff.
Im still learnin my way around this truck, so any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
