Good evening guys
I need your help please …. I put this product in to my car to clean the cats, as you cats call it. And now I have some problems and I am very far away, and I need to get home urgently. First when I put this liquid in, from another point it started dripping and I stopped and now I put in gasoline and the needle is stuck.

It's ok? I can keep going??

That's not high mileage. What product did you use? Hard to give a recommendation without all the information.

I called a friend, who knows a little about cars and he told me “you have a leak, but go home you'll dont have problem”

Im still on the way

Why does a dirty catalytic converter go with mileage? I think that's …. What i'm asking now🫣

I believe something was securely locked because it's a police car and not just anyone can grab a bottle and step on the gas tank…. And unfortunately now I notice that the mileage speed isn't going well either, different it's showing on the cluster and different showing my phone.

A low mileage cat that's dirty, clogged or worn out is caused by an engine problem.

Yes, my mechanic showed me some black metal ones that if they break, I'll need a lot and if I replace them, each one is very expensive. That is why I added a bottle of cleaner, which could solve my problem, and I will save around $4000 Canadian.

Whats the CEL for? Just occured to me.

Did your mechanic recommend you add this product?

We need more info. Why were you at the mechanic originally?

Did s/he pull the trouble codes that should have been set when the check engine light on the dash came on?

Was no further investigation done to determine why you "might" have a bad cat(s)?

They don't just dirty themselves and need a bottle of product, there is some other fault and only after that is corrected, if there is still an engine trouble code or performance problem, only then is the bottle of cleaner an inexpensive attempt to avoid having to replace the cats. At that mileage, do NOT replace the cats without first finding the cause of them failing (IF they actually did) and fixing that first.

If you just replace cats without fixing the cause, the new cats will fail too.

I don't know for certain, but the dripping you see in the rear, could just be a muffler drain hole and due to amount of driving, water, a normal byproduct of burning gasoline, is just dripping out of the muffler drain hole as it is supposed to do, or perhaps your muffler has a little rust-out causing a leak there. Either way, I don't think that leak is of primary concern right now and doesn't indicate much, unless it is gasoline from a cylinder misfire and that misfire (unburnt gasoline, until it hits the cats) is what is damaging the cat(s). A competent mechanic should be able to figure that out.

Personally, I wouldn't be comfortable continuing to drive the vehicle with the check engine light on, unless I knew what trouble code was causing it to come on. Some codes are just emissions related and could just result in getting worse fuel economy until a repair is done, but other faults that cause a code, could cause engine damage, or cat damage. If all else fails, I would at LEAST stop at the next major auto parts store along your route, where they will usually do a free code scan and tell you the code so you can figure out possible causes for the check engine light, then decide whether to keep driving or instead, go to the nearest repair shop, or in worst case, drive no further and call a tow truck.

Then again, considering that it is two days after your first post, you've probably already either stopped or gotten to your destination.

Unfortunately I know the cause, I know the codes, and I know it's not worth fixing.... my mechanic did a big diagnosis on it. He suggest me to sell it.

CEL = Check Engine Light

Why are you withholding information? If you know the cause, tell us? If you know the codes, state that as well?

Anyone looking to buy a 2017 vehicle which is still worth several thousand dollars, is going to notice, and care about the check engine light. Whatever problem the vehicle has, could devalue it's resale value by as much as it costs to fix it, perhaps a lot more than it costs to fix it as there are sometimes discounts to be had when fixing vehicles, or misdiagnosis leading to an invalid estimate what it might cost to repair, but we can't really know this without full information.

It just seems strange that if you might have substantial engine damage that you know about, which is leading to failure of the cats, that you would have taken it on a seemingly long trip, "very far away" as you put it?

If you really need to sell it, then the last thing I would do is continue to drive it until it no longer runs, instead save what little operating time it has left, sell it "as-is", but do tell the buyer what diagnosis it has, or seek a 2nd opinion for another diagnosis before trying to sell it.

Thank you so much, you have good points, you say them very well and very fairly.... I agree with you.

BUT there are many important things that I didn't explain, it probably escaped me.

I'm not hiding anything, but I don't want to bore you guys here.
I'll explain around when I have time, usually at night.😊

Let's start from the beginning. When I bought the Police Interceptor Utility 2015, the check engine light came on within a day because the previous owners had temporarily turned it off. I quickly got a diagnosis from my mechanic, who found a problem with the catalytic converters (cats). He recommended returning the car, citing the high replacement cost.

To be fair, my mechanic warned me about the expense. My mechanic suggested to me to try to negotiate a return, but he'd never seen it done before. I followed his advice, I contacted the company, and they agreed to investigate. However, my goal wasn't to return the car; I wanted to use this information to negotiate a lower price

Then, they called me to receive the check.
I don't know if you've heard of it???,
"Love at first sight"
That happened to me.

I was so sad and I didn't want to lose it, so I went and bought it again 😉😁

It doesn't bother me with the catalytic converters, and so far, I haven't had any problems. I have a problem with the gas that wastes a lot of money. I agree with you, I was thinking of driving it until it ends up in my hands, but I can't afford these gas costs. It wastes a lot of gas. And unfortunately, I can't afford the high gas costs.

About 2 months ago, I did re-diagnosed it,
and I was thinking this is the end, if it has a serious problem, I should sell it.

and the mechanic told me again that there is a serious problem. If i don't fix it in about 1 year, I would have a big problem with the engine.

I don't think I need to disclose issues with the catalytic converters when selling unless it's a safety concern. If there's no safety risk, I wouldn't mention it.

Didn't they tell me there was a problem when I bought it? Why should I ??? 🤷🏻‍♀️
