Questions About My PIU

It is good to give the oil & fluids time to heat up & metal to expand, yes. But I find that the impact is diminished after a few minutes and eventually the extra run time at idle puts more wear on parts. So yes rule of thumb let your car warm up. However, there is a point in which the effect is null compared to the gas and eztra wear from idling so long. IMO Id let it run for 5 or so minutes then drive it lightly.

Idle is where the car is running but not being driven. In this case it's where the car is left in park and the engine is running.
you wishing never ll have a customer like me.😂

There is no clearer answer than this. Thank you very much!👍

Glad I can help! And we all learn these things somewhere! I probbaly asked similar things growing up.

Look, guys, what I did! Since I have two cars, I put it in both. I tried to see if this is normal. In the police car, it started dripping. However, in the other one, the '17, it doesn't drip...

What this means?
And again I'm asking, there's a chance that, because it's a police vehicle, they only do it for security reasons???

Now I won't wait that long because I have -13, it's fine, we have summer!🤭

Before I heard not good to drive a cold car!!!
The car will heat up sooner if driven. There is no need to have it idle for more than a minute unless you want to warm the inside for yourself. Idling wastes a lot of gasoline and many jurisdictions now have idling laws. Unless it's very cold, I usually just start it up, fasten my seatbelt and go.

The dripping seems to be coming from the muffler/exhaust which I believe is normal. My 2025 Aviator does it.

Take that to Montgomery Auto on 16th ave, just East of the safeway. They are honest and will give you the real story on what is going on.

Either them, or check and see if Calgary Propane and Auto on 30th ave NE is still open. Old school mechanic who is straight up and will save a guy money where he can. Can't remember his name unfortunately, Have sent lots of work his way over the years and have never heard anything but praise for the dude.

Thank you so much, from the bottom of my heart. I just read the message and I'm surprised. I'm going to take action and hopefully end this struggle. I've been trying to make modifications for a year and half..... I hope he doesn't raise his hands because I have a police vehicle.

Why does a dirty catalytic converter go with mileage? I think that's …. What i'm asking now🫣

Your engine is actually a glorified air pump. It draw in through the air filter and induction, squeezes it, adds fuel that then expands, then that hot air goes through the cat and muffler before going out the tailpipe.

The more efficient the airflow, the better the mileage. A dirty cat decreases that efficiency.

You are very clear, and the solution is?

I should replace the catalytic converter If the cat is clogged or damaged, replacing it with a new one can restore airflow efficiency? is that correct?

Like Apollonius of Tyana, I only tell the future, I don't evaluate them.

Replacement MAY be necessary, depending on how bad off it is, but there may be other solutions, so I'm not going to tell you to spend massive amounts of money based on a Forum post. Once you understand what you're TRYING to make happen, you can figure out your best option.

Okay until I understand what I'm trying to do, it will cost me a second Ferrari.....

I'll seek a second and third opinion, hoping to find a good mechanic. Even though my mechanic is good, I never know.

I'm heartbroken. I bought this 2015 PIU for $13,000 and loved it - I still do. Sometimes I'm so frustrated that I think to burn it, If I weren't in Canada, I might have done it already

A few months ago, I considered selling it. The first offer was $8,000, but I refused. The next two offers were $6,000 and $5,000, respectively. I thought about buying a new car so I wouldn't be left without one, and then selling this old one.

Ironically, I ended up buying a 2017 Ford Explorer rebuilt EcoBoost 4CYL for $15500, I'm still laughing at myself about it.

When I was little, my father told me that 'cats' had died inside the truck's engine. Now, I thought I had the same problem, until I realized I didn't know what 'cats' referred to!!!

Yes he is still open, God bless him. From my first experience, he seems like a great guy and smart, good job, but unfortunately he didn't give me good hopes for my car😔

I have an appointment next week for diagnosis. And his name is Jamie.

Ford's capless fuel filler system is the issue here. Like many similar systems, it includes an internal valve actuated by a fuel nozzle which allows liquids to flow into the fuel tank. Things like additive bottles or portable gas cans won't actuate that valve fully or at all, causing the stuff you're adding to flow onto the ground. You need to use a "capless fuel funnel" available for about $5 at many auto parts stores or amazon. There may already be one near your spare tire or in the glovebox.

I have it in the near spare tire . When I bought the 'catalytic converter cleaner', they didn't tell me I had to use the funnel.

When I saw the mechanic, he immediately identified solved it within a minute for that. That's why I'm saying he is so smart. But that's not the main problem.
