Quick cluster swap questions....

Vehicle is a 1996 XLT, 5.0 2wd.

I want to swap my cluster out ygis weekend to a JY cluster and have a couple of questions.

1. Does it matter what explorer I get a replacement cluster from? As long as its arounf around the same year?
2. Do I have to pop the needles off and re position them when the jy cluster goes in to my truck, or should it just be a plugngo type thing?

The reasin im doing this is beacause my fuel gauge is pegged full, my odometer intermittently works, and my temp gauge waggles all the time. I belive this happened due to a water leak behind the dash. I dint care about the odo reading at all...

as long as you swap the entire cluster, you don't need to mess with the needles or even remove the lens. 3 or four electrical plugs as i recall. i'd try to get a replacement cluster from the same same year Explorer or you may run into problems. i know the location of some of the warning lights can vary. as far as it being a quick swap... not so much. when i pulled mine, to replace illumination bulbs, it probably took me 3 hours. now that i've done one i think i could do it in around 1-2 (i work slow).

BTW, be very careful when disconnecting the shift indicator cable. it's easily broken.
