Get some assembly goo. It's tacky, which helps hold the pins in during assembly.
I installed an aussie once with only differential oil, but you just have to be more careful to hold the pieces in place.
Oh, and I have pulled trailers a couple times with the rear Aussie, it works fine. The heavier the trailer is, the more you will chirp the tires turning out from a stop light and whatever. More torque means stronger lockup, but it is tolerable still.
