radio upgrade to sync model

I have an 08 explorer xlt it has the standard radio with cd player and controls on wheel . can I just upgrade the radio to the sync model or will I need other things , harness etc. I would like to use my phone if possible . any help is appreciated thank you this is the part number I think may fit it Ford Explorer 2008-2009 exc. I would look over in the audio/navigation section for your answer. However, if it were me, I would just get an aftermarket double din unit for a lot less than what you are going to pay for the Ford unit and be a lot happier with it.
