I was wondering, is it possible to convert the front end (fenders, grille, headlights, fascia, etc.) from a 2nd gen Explorer onto a 2nd gen Ranger (like a '98)? Has it been done? Any info will help

yes
it has been done

IMO factory sheet metal = ALOT of work and customizing to get it right, this is not a bolt up deal

However there are several different choices in fiberglass for your Gen II Explorer, heck even F-150 front clip.....the Ranger Edge seems to be most popular, I personally like the Sport Track front conversion

Check:

no I'd want the explorer lights and stuff on a ranger...

Explorer is a popular conversion for Rangers, usually it is done with fiberglass
sometimes it is done with factory metal, but the fiberglass is much much easier (bolt on)

depending on the year of your Ranger, the Explorer Gen II clip may almost bolt on
95-01 Explorer
