rattle from engine

This happened to me about a year ago. I had a rattle in the mornind then it would go away so it was a ***** to find. It ended up being the harmonic balancer bushing was coming apart. I bought a new one $400 the mechanic put it on, everything was good, my wife goes to the store one morning here a pop no compression what so ever engine free spins. The bolt backed out and broke the key way also the engine was shot. New engine $3800 3year 36000 mile warrenty, come to find out 2 others came in a week prior with the same noise a mountaineer and a nother explorer. Kinda funny, bye the way I work at a Ford dealer to top it off.

3rd generation balancers

Failure of the harmonic balancers seems to be more common for the 3rd generation than the 2nd generation apparantly due to the design change. See Harmonic balancer failure
