I have looked through my shop manual for the rear blower motor relay, and I am not able to find the location. This is for a 96. Anybody know where it is?
Thanks

Same question here. 1996 Explorer with manual temperature control. There is a box with 7 relays above the accelerator. I think it's one of the 6 small relays. Does anyone have a diagram to identify which relay does what? Or is the rear blower relay somewhere else?

On my 96 explorer fuse 10 is shared between blend door actuator and rear blower relay. That’s what the wiring diagram shows. Fuse 10 blows with the blend door actuator removed and the rear air control in the off position. To me that says the rear blower relay coil is shorted to ground. I want to remove it and do without the rear blower. But I have to find the relay or other short circuit so I can reinstall the blend door actuator.

When I changed my 97 a few years ago, i recall it was below the air intake box.

Good luck.

Thanks. I solved the mystery almost by accident.

With the ignition on but engine not running I heard a loud buzzing tone from under the hood. It turned out to be the blower relay under the air box, which was oscillating on and off rapidly. This is the main blower relay. I swapped it with the adjacent high blower relay. The noise stopped. Then I replaced fuse 10 and it did not blow. I plugged in the heater door actuator and it worked.

Looking at the circuit diagram I don’t understand how the main blower relay coil could draw 10 amps and blow fuse 10, even with the AC current from the oscillation. I think the diagram is wrong. I also think that manual temp control for 1996 has no rear blower relay.

Moral of the story is that if you have a buzzing or humming relay, replace it before something fails.
