When I order my Sport, I am tossed with ordering the Rear Bucket Seats with or without the console. Those with the console, are you glad you paid for it, or do you plan to remove it to provide better access?

Howdy neighbor! (kinda, lol)

Just so you know, unless something has changed recently, the Sport cannot be ordered with the console. You can get the buckets, but the console is not offered. It is one of the quirky option offerings on the Sport.

We have a Limited with the console and I cannot imagine having the buckets and being comfortable sitting in them for long periods without having a place to put my elbow without the console. Having said that, I like the versatility (sliding fore/aft adjustment) that the very comfortable buckets offer.\

Keep us posted on your order :)

Correct, the latest order guide came out last Mon and you still cannot get the 2nd row console on a Sport.

if it changed and you can order it, get it!!! i have a limited with buckets and no console and wish i had it!! Even if you don't like it you can sell it for a profit because buying it after the factory costs about $800 compared to $100 at order time.... but like others said, it may not be available still...

So I ordered the bucket seats in my sport. Are you telling me there's no armrests for the bucket seats?

That's correct! If they had armrests they would be called captains chairs. Look on ebay for a console, it's very easy to add one after the fact. Only 4 bolts.

Console

Hey Vince......thanks for the update. Yes, we are fairly close.

The console I saw was on either a Limited or XLT. I can't recall.

I assumed it was available with the Sport. I will check with my dealer when I order my Sport and see if they will work with me on ordering one through parts at cost since I am buying a vehicle from them.

I plan to order a 2014 Black Sport.

I have arranged for a wheel swap and already have my wheels purchased through Detroit Wheel and Tire. I bought the 20" twin spoke in PVD (chrome).
I think that will look great on a Black Sport.

I don't think that you can order a console. It has to be factory installed for those that order it.

Console

Will order the console through the parts department at cost.

You can't just buy the entire console as one unit. They only sell the individual parts and it would have to be assembled. Retail cost is close to $1000.

Console

Then I'll go aftermarket. I want the bucket seats and its senseless to not have an arm rest

Search ebay, they show up there from time to time. Or try a local salvage yard or partfinder.com that deals in late model parts. I believe the one from the Flex is the same part to open up more available options since they have been built since '09. You can also get the refrigerator version which usually go for about $500 on ebay.

Hey gang,

Just so we're all on the same page, let me clarify a few things. Regarding second row bucket seats, the second row center console is not available on the 2013 Explorer Sport. The bucket seats do not include inboard armrests. This is the same seating option available on the Limited and (starting with the 2013 model year) XLT, although those do offer the second row center console option.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Thanks!
Crystal

I know this thread is a bit dated, but it's what comes up when I search "explorer center console" in Google. Anyway, our 2014 Sport did NOT come with a rear seat center console and I didn't really think anything of it until this past weekend when I had to sit in the back for a brief trip...having no armrests or console is CRAZY! I need one aftermarket or even OEM but can't find one...Any help help from someone who can give me a direct link?

BTW, the '14's do obviously have the option for a rear seat center console (ours just didn't include it) See here--> http://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-...][]]&listingId=355274825&listingIndex=2&Log=0

The 2nd row console is an option on the '14 Sport. It wasn't available at all on the 2013. I don't think it can be ordered 'after the fact'. Your dealer's parts department may be able to answer that. See also post #12 .
There are a few other posts about this as well and can be found using the Forum's 'Search' function.
Good luck.

Armrests would've been nice. I have sat back there a few times and it does suck having nothing to rest on. I won't buy a center console simply because it's nice to have easy access to the 3rd row without flipping seats up all the time.

Second Row Console Question

Hi. We have ordered a 2014 XLT with second row bucket seats. Originally we were not going to get a 2nd row console since we will have car seats installed in the second row seats. After reading posts here I see many suggest the 2nd row console is a must have item so I am having second thoughts. While I have read you can remove the console I am still not 100% sure what the final look is with the plastic cover and weather tech mats look like. I can't seem to find any photos. So it left me wondering to those who have kids and a console....can someone easily step over the console to reach the third row? I don't see us using the third row a lot (2 adults and two kids,) but the entire point of the 2nd row bucket seats was for easy access to the third row without uninstalling car seats. We are in a smaller town with only one dealership. I test drove a model with second row bucket seats, and it did not have a console. They didn't have any other models with that setup.

If you want easy access to the 3rd row without folding a second row seat down, don't get the center console.

Thank you. I am still on the fence. The dealer told me it would be fairly easy to step over the console. Do you feel the lack of a console makes the second row seats uncomfortable for long rides?

Console removal

Its a pain in the rear to step over the second row console. However, I removed my second row console so that we could have easier access to the third row (I have two little ones in car seats in the second row). The console was very easy to remove and I used a piece of black floor mat that matched the carpet along with some newly purchased weather tech floor liners for the 2nd and 3rd row to cover the area perfectly. My plan is to reinstall the second row console once the kiddos are in booster seats.:salute:
