hi,
just about to remove the transmission (5r55e) on my explorer and was just wondering whether i can leave the converter connected to the flex plate or do i have to remove it with the tranny,

thanks,
neil

both

However it is MUCH harder to drop the trans without the converter, because you have to pull the trans straight back like 8"

It is MUCH easier to rotate the engine via the crank shaft pulley/balancer and remove the 4ea torque converter nuts, then drop the converter with the trans

The ONLY time I have ever left the converter on the flexplate is when the engine was seized and it was impossible to turn over = NOT FUN, but this was in a full size Chevy not a Ford 4.0L V6 :) Chevy = POS hahahaha

thanks for that,

looks like i'll remove it then,

neil
